Introduction

The 360° camera settings feature enables users to control the camera settings being used for capturing. This feature will be helpful for users that are capturing surveys of a space with adverse conditions such dark spaces, spaces with limited lighting, or spaces with unstable or uneven floors that require AV/SS/ISO/EV/HDR control for successful captures.

Parameters to manage 360° photo capture

Parameter

Description

Shutter Speed (SS)

Shutter speed is exactly what it sounds like: It’s the speed at which the shutter of the camera closes. A fast shutter speed creates a shorter exposure — the amount of light the camera takes in — and a slow shutter speed gives the photographer a longer exposure.

If your environment is bright, use a fast shutter speed.

If your environment is dark, use a slower shutter speed.

Experiment with the camera in your environment to choose the correct shutter speed and find one that gives you the best capture for your needs.

ISO

ISO controls the amount of light that your camera lets in and has a huge impact on the darkness or light in your photos.

The ideal ISO number allows your camera to achieve good image quality by letting the right amount of light hit the image sensor. In brighter lighting, lower ISO is best — low ISO values are better in well-lit scenarios. Conversely, when less light is available, you need a higher ISO to compensate. High ISO increases your camera’s light sensitivity, which is ideal for low-light situations.

1-1) When capturing in a dark environment

a) if the space is slightly dark, turn HDR on through Auto mode and capture. Check the output photo through 360° camera preview before continuing.

b) if the space is very dark, increase SS until camera photo is clear

c) and if brightness is still low, increase ISO through manual mode

 1-2) When capturing bright environment,

a) if space is slightly bright, turn HDR on through Auto mode and capture. Check the output photo through 360° camera preview before continuing.

b) if the space is very bright, lower ISO to minimum

c) and if brightness is still high, lower SS through manual mode

 2) When capturing on an unstable environment where the camera is shaking for any reason, we recommend users to lower SS first, and then if brightness is still low, increase ISO through Manual mode

Changing the 360° Camera Setting

1. Tap the [Settings] right down on the capture screen.

2. In the 360° Camera Information, tap Shooting Mode and you see A) 360° camera preview and B)360° camera capture mode setting UI.

3. Select the Mode from Auto, Manual, and Shutter Priority.

4. Select the Value in each factor.

 B)360° Camera Capture Mode

App provides different modes, such as [AUTO] [MANUAL] and [SHUTTER PRIORITY] with varying degrees of controllability regarding SS/ISO/EV/HDR factors.

360camera_modes.png

a) Auto(default): Automatically sets all the factors for current environment condition with chosen EV value and HDR option.

b) Manual: Can set every factor, SS/ISO, depending on own requirements.

c) Shutter priority: With selected EV and SS, automatically sets ISO factor. Recommended for a faster capture.

C)Factors

360camera_modes_factors.png

a) SS, Shutter Speed: Factor that decides how long the will the shutter take to close when capturing the image. Low SS means fast capture without blur while higher means slow capture that will give blurred image without stability.

For cases where the platform is unstable so the camera is shaking for any reason, need to set SS low.
for the case where the environment is dark, need to set SS high.

b) ISO, International Standards Organization: Factor about sensor sensitivity, high ISO makes photos brighter while increasing photo noise.

For cases where the environment is dark, need to set ISO high. If the platform is stable enough so the camera is not shaking, recommend setting SS high first for a brighter photo before setting ISO high due to noise.

c) EV, Exposure Value: Factor about camera exposure with the combination of SS/ISO, the higher value gives the output photo brighter.

For the case when you are using 'Auto' mode for capture, set EV high to capture the bright photo.

d) HDR, High Dynamic Range: Feature that gives improved photo with better color and brightness visualization by normalization. Turning HDR ON will replace capture with at least 3 continuous multiple captures. So, SS gets automatically tuned depending on the nearby environment, which requires stability while capturing. Available only with 'Auto' preset due to SS tuning.

Note: We will have more camera settings in the upcoming release as follows;

Modes that will be updated soon

a) ISO priority: with selected EV and ISO, automatically sets AV/SS factor. Better for capturing high-quality photos.
b) AV priority: with selected EV and AV, automatically sets SS/ISO factor. Better for outdoor capture.

Factors that will be updated soon

a) AV, Aperture Value: Value about Aperture size, a smaller aperture means more light for a wider area of focus.
